Seven days in Morocco is the perfect amount of time to experience the highlights of this extraordinary country — from the chaos and color of Marrakech to the silence of the Sahara Desert, the blue streets of Chefchaouen and the medieval medina of Fes. This is the itinerary we recommend most to our guests.
The 7-Day Route Overview
- Days 1–2: Marrakech — medina, souks, palaces
- Days 3–4: Sahara Desert — via Atlas Mountains & Ait Benhaddou
- Day 5: Fes — ancient medina & tanneries
- Day 6: Chefchaouen — the Blue City
- Day 7: Return to Marrakech or fly from Fes/Tangier
Day by Day Itinerary
Days 1 & 2 — Marrakech
Arrive in Marrakech and check into your riad in the medina. Spend Day 1 exploring the souks, Bahia Palace and El Badi Palace. In the evening, experience Djemaa el-Fna at its most electric. Day 2, visit Majorelle Garden early, then the Saadian Tombs and a traditional hammam in the afternoon.
Days 3 & 4 — Sahara Desert
Depart early for the Sahara via the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass. Stop at the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou Kasbah — used in Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Continue through the Draa Valley to Merzouga. At sunset, mount camels and ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes to your desert camp. Wake before dawn for the Sahara sunrise — the most memorable moment of any Morocco trip.
Day 5 — Fes
Drive or fly north to Fes — Morocco's spiritual and cultural capital. The medina of Fes el-Bali is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest car-free urban area. Visit the famous Chouara Tanneries, the Bou Inania Medersa and get lost in the 9,000 alleyways of the old city.
Day 6 — Chefchaouen
Just 3 hours from Fes, Chefchaouen is Morocco's most photogenic city — every wall, stair and doorway painted in shades of blue. Wander the Medina, hike to the Spanish Mosque for panoramic views, and enjoy the relaxed mountain atmosphere. Spend the night here.
Day 7 — Return
Fly home from Fes, Tangier or Casablanca — all within easy reach of Chefchaouen. Alternatively, return to Marrakech for a final night in the city.
"The biggest mistake on a Morocco 7-day trip is trying to see too much. Choose quality over quantity — it's better to spend 2 full days in Marrakech than rush through 5 cities in a week. The real Morocco reveals itself slowly."
Best Time for This Itinerary
This itinerary works year-round but is best in spring (March–May) or autumn (September–November). Avoid July–August for the Sahara section — desert temperatures can exceed 45°C. Winter is beautiful and quiet but Sahara nights will be very cold.
